Grant Assists Bell’s Child Wellness Program
A new Bell-based children’s wellness initiative is taking root in part due to a $5,000 grant from Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Bell’s Corporate Wellness Center has been awarded a Healthy Lifestyles grant provided by the BC/BS Mission Department through the Michigan Center for Rural Health.
The $5,000 grant was awarded for the development of the “Bell Fit Kids” youth wellness program. The “Bell Fit Kids” program is designed to encourage healthy habits through fun and informative fitness and educational activities.
“The overall goal of the program is to educate youth and to give them the tools to choose a healthy lifestyle and to promote healthy families,” explained Bell Wellness Center Director Josh Drew. “By working in collaboration with local school systems and pediatricians we hope to branch out to the community to further promote health and wellness.”
The “Bell Fit Kids” youth wellness program consists of age-specific exercise instruction and health education activities. Typical activities include: obstacle courses, kids only aerobics and yoga, nutritional games and projects, and anatomy activities. Each class is designed to be a fun experience and to encourage healthy habits.
Josh said, “By receiving the Healthy Lifestyles grant, we are able to purchase equipment and educational materials needed to provide a unique and effective and learning experience to local youth. We are promoting healthy habits among youth through fun, movement and education.”
