The Bell Hospital has had a caring group of individuals that have volunteered thousand of hours of their time over the past 52 years. Established in 1953 by a group of women who wanted to be able to give something back to their local community hospital, the Auxiliary today still carries on those fine traditions. Over the years, the Auxiliary has helped with patients by delivering coffee or mail, by providing car seats for newborns, by purchasing various pieces of hospital equipment that have been requested by many of the hospital's departments as well as keeping the doors of the Gift Shop open to visitors and employees.
Today, many of the volunteer activities have changed but the heart of the volunteer is still there donating 'time' - one of life's most precious gifts. Volunteers today still keep the Gift Shop doors open, as well as provide children's tours of the hospital, test call Lifeline subscriber units, install Lifeline units, and many other activities too numerous to list. If you, or someone you know, is interested in volunteering their time to the Auxiliary, you may contact Maureen Mitchell, Volunteer Services Coordinator, at 485-2356 or via email at mmitchell@bellmemorial.org
In 2004, the Auxiliary Board of Bell Hospital initiated a $1,000 Healthcare Scholarship. Applicants for this scholarship need to be enrolled in a Health Care field of study at their college. One scholarship is awarded annually to a local resident of Marquette or Baraga County. If you might qualify or know of someone who may, you can find out more information by contacting Maureen Mitchel . |
